Fresno Regional Foundation wins $1.4 million grant

Fresno, CA - December 6, 2007 - Fresno Regional Foundation has been awarded a $1.4 million grant from The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation that will be used to tackle two pressing issues in the central San Joaquin Valley: teen pregnancy and air quality. The grant will also support organizational development of Fresno Regional Foundation.

Over the next three years, Fresno Regional Foundation will disperse the bulk of this grant to local non-profit organizations committed to reducing teen pregnancy and improving air quality throughout the central San Joaquin Valley’s urban and rural communities. These funds will be awarded to local agencies through a competitive application process which will be publicized early next year.

“We are thrilled to partner with a prestigious organization such as the Hewlett Foundation and even more excited to provide much needed assistance to the Central Valley in two areas that touch us all, strengthening families and protecting the air we breathe,” said Dan DeSantis, Chief Executive Officer of Fresno Regional Foundation.

Since its inception more than four decades ago, Fresno Regional Foundation has had one mission: “To improve the quality of life in the Central San Joaquin Valley through philanthropy.” During the past two years, the Foundation has experienced substantial asset growth, tremendous elevation in the number and size of grants made, and the establishment of solid relationships with other prominent philanthropic organizations, such as the Hewlett Foundation. A portion of the Hewlett grant will also support operating expenses associated with this grant and will enable Fresno Regional Foundation to invest in strategic planning and organizational development.

Advisory committees will guide the development of the re-granting programs. The committees include representatives with expertise in the areas of air quality and teen pregnancy prevention. Recent grants made by Fresno Regional Foundation have supported local nonprofits working on a range of Central Valley priorities including human services, youth development, literacy, culture and the arts.
