Fresno Regional Foundation Grants $370,000 for Teen Pregnancy Prevention and Organizational Capacity

Fresno Regional Foundation Grants 

$370,000 for Teen Pregnancy Prevention 

and Organizational Capacity Building

Fresno, CA – Nine community benefit organizations are being recognized with a grant award at 4 p.m. this Tuesday at the Fresno Regional Foundation (FRF) office in Fresno. The FRF Board of Directors has approved nine grants totaling $370,000 in support of teen pregnancy prevention and capacity building support for organizations in the San Joaquin Valley.

Three organizations will receive $240,000 for teen pregnancy prevention:

Fresno Barrios Unidos: $100,000 for reproductive health education for the Fresno Unified high school students.

Nuevo Comienzo: $100,000 for Aledante Latina, a teen pregnancy prevention program that combines reproductive health education and leadership development for teens in Culter-Orosi, California.

Focus Forward: $40,000 for reproductive health education and an adult ally program to support incarcerated youth.

“Teen pregnancy costs California taxpayers almost $2 billion annually, but the economic impact pales compared to the social impact on young mothers and fathers, their children and the community,” said FRF Chief Executive Officer Dan DeSantis. “We know that without support, young families struggle to create a path to success and self-sufficiency. The future of the Central Valley requires that everyone contributes to the social and economic vitality of the region.” 

Also, six organizations will receive $130,000 in capacity building grants:

Fresno Street Saints: $25,000 to provide board and staff leadership and governance training and support for organizations serving West Fresno.

United Way of Tulare County: $25,000 to train the members of five rural water boards on governance, finance, and communications.

Community Water Center: $25,000 to provide training and education for residents and water board members in unincorporated communities to address drinking water issues.

Poverello House: $20,000 to develop a new strategic plan to best meet the needs of the homeless in Fresno.

California Rural Legal Assistance Foundation: $20,000 to educate and engage rural residents in the implementation of SB 375, a state bill that requires regional planning agencies to develop greenhouse gas reduction targets for passenger vehicles.

Nonprofit Finance Fund: $15,000 for financial management workshops for local community benefit organizations.
